Q: What is the actual free space on my disk?

It shows that my apps take 139.73 GB of storage. However, it also says that size of my disk is 499.06 GB and Available space is 460.58 GB, How is that possible?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

What you're seeing is what's reported by spotlight, which has indexed the disk. It's possible for the index to be "off" compared to the actual usage.

Check to see if there is a difference between what you're seeing there and what's reported by right-clicking on the drive and selecting 'Get Info'.

Well, I checked that and all the things it says matches with the details in disk Utility. However, My problem is that the disk utility is showing used space as 38 gb however it also shows that the apps have covered 139.73. Please help!

Thanks I was able to rebuild index of spotlight and it worked. Thanks to all of you
