Q: iMac crashing - Please help!

Version 10.11.5

iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)

Processor    2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory   4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics     AMD Radeon HD 6770 512 MB

Hi, for the past 1-2 months now my iMac has been crashing randomly. At first it was a once a week thing but the past week and a half it's shut off randomly 7 times now.

It's not really showing any pattern, yesterday I was just watching Netflix with nothing but Chrome open and it shut off. The other day I was running Photoshop, spotify and a few other programs and it shut off, too.

When it crashes, the screen sometimes just goes black, or white, sometimes flashes and with weird vertical lines all over the screen. Yesterday when I had spotify running, the music kept playing on a weird loop even after the screen went haywire.

But today, when I tried to boot it up, it shut on and off over and over again and I had to reset the SMC until I finally got it to startup so I could type this. I ran an EtreCheck, and nothing seemed out of place. Is it some hidden Malware, or a hardware failure? Would it be worth just investing into another new computer rather than trying to fix this? Thank you!

EDIT: Something to add - yes, the computer is slow at times. Especially on startup - I've cleared the trash and login items, but the computer will sometimes take 3-5 full minutes until everything's loaded and I can use it proficiently.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), null
