Q: Superdrive ejecting too fast

We've just got a new Superdrive for our MacBook Pro, and just inserted the first DVD and now we can't eject it.

We've tired various 'eject' buttons on the MacBook, each time the DVD starts to eject (you can see here it and it comes ejects a very short way, very quickly), but then the Superdrive sees the DVD as a new DVD and restarts the program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Eject CD/DVD

      1. Restart the computer and hold the trackpad down.

      2. Launch Terminal.

          Applications > Utilities > Terminal

Type in   drutil eject external  internal

Press enter key on the keyboard.

    2. Reset SMC. Choose the method for “If the battery is nonremovable”.

If this doesn’t help, try returning the super drive.

Thanks dominic23. We tried your suggestions but the dvd is not ejecting. We'll take the SuperDrive back to the shop next week.

the DVD starts to eject (you can see here it and it comes ejects a very short way, very quickly), but then the Superdrive sees the DVD as a new DVD and restarts the program.

I think it is more likely that a physical problem keeps the disc from ejecting properly, and instead of completing the Eject, it starts a disc insert on the half-ejected disc.

If it were mine, I would tell it to eject and attempt to catch the edge of the disc as it pops out and see if I could fully remove it, and if not, why not.
