Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

my father started having this a few months ago with his 6+ he tought it was because his screen was broken, but after the screen got replaced it still did this. thats why i got it. I tought I was the only one with this problem because i googled it but i couldnt find anything about it I also didnt know anyone with this problem. But since a couple of days its in the open that the iphone 6 and 6+ have this so now i know it isnt out own fault. yes twisting the phone does help a bit but your finger starts hurting when u have to do that all day long. its also difficult to do things on your phone when you have to hold it like that. its very irritating and it also makes me kinda mad. just wanted to say this .

I think Apple will just let this one blow by. Very disappointed here...

For those having this issue, try "bending" the upper left corner of the phone. It fixes for for a bit.

I have had this problem for a while. I thought it was a update that they applied. But after reading those articles about bending iPhone, the next time it happened I very lightly bent my phone a little and it started working. So this is definitely not a software issue. This is like iFix it said a design problem with the chip that controls it. The must have known it was a problem because the iPhone 6s plus has been redesigned so it doesn't happen.

Is apple going to fess up to this and repair phones?

I'm facing the same issue, and with so many people having this issue, Apple should help us fix it for FREE.  I bought the Lamborghini of mobile phones and expect it to last more than a year and a half.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else. One of the guys at the genius bar said that if Apple decides to issue a recall or a repair, they would refund the $329 you paid for a replacement phone. I'd rather send it off to be fixed by an outsider company, but I'm afraid that if I do, it will void my phone from any recall/repair they might issue.  So I guess I'll fork over the $329 for now and hope that the new phone doesn't have problems, and that Apple will address this issue soon.

Touch Disease... This is how this issue is being called.

    be aware of it.

This post will be deleted by Apple since they're trying to hush this issue.

    CHeers!!

google "iphone touch" and "iphone touch disease" auto populates as a choice.....it's not a small potato any more.

My guess is Apple is trying to hold out till those who can and will upgrade to 7 do and then when demand drops for the 7 they will offer a discount to upgrade and be done with the "touch disease" issue. This is risky and dumb. Premium buyers do not like defects and avoidance. They (as I would be as well) considering their other options. This is a bean counter move and not in the long term best interest of any shareholder nor their customers. Apple fix the problem....$100 spent now will pay dividends later!

Wow, that's a lot of speculation.

First of all, this all started with someone with a monetary interest in this problem. The original blog post and video relies heavily on someone who is not trained to make these repairs (no certifications listed on their site), in their videos mentions that they use parts not made for iPhones (and also tries to sell you on their middleman), and actively experiments and drops customers equipment for the sake of a video. This person also offers their own DIY repair training, and tries to sell people on that as well. Please remember that when you see the first hit that would pop up when you put in that search result. This is a person who wants your money.

Second, you can guess all you want, but ultimately you have no idea what Apple would do. You can throw all the spaghetti you want at the wall, but at the end of the day you'll have to wait for Apple, and you shouldn't let your imagination get too crazy and you definitely shouldn't get others all riled up because of it.

I have been waiting for almost a year....first problem happen in late October shortly after the warranty. After WASTING $500 in needless screen replacements, I am still back to square one with a non-functioning phone (and computer, they are more than just phones). So should we not be mad? And who's playing GOD? They are ours and if we want to use non Apple approved generic parts, why shouldn't we? It's out of warranty and Apple is doing NOTHING to help us in our deli-ma that they caused. Please answer me those questions TheOnlyCyberWissard.

For me this all started in April this year and I'm on the 5th replacement phone thanks to Apple care plus , just an inconvenience, the last 4 exhibiting the same touch issues. Its just a phone! At least it wasn't new car taken in 4 times for the same problem.

That didn't really address what I said, but sure, I'll answer your questions.

I never said you couldn't be mad, just to be aware of your sources.

No one is playing any sort of god, I don't understand this question.

You can do what you want, I'm just trying to help get some information out there. The parts aren't certified by Apple, you have no idea where they come from, who made them, or if they will work for long. I've read some of that repair person's comments on getting those parts, they get taken by customs on occasion because they're not authentic. It's a heads up more than anything.

    Any more questions for me?

And it's rough, I get that, and I'm sorry that you've had to deal with this. I just want people to be aware of what they're doing. If you go and get a repair from someone who isn't Apple certified, let alone not certified at all, you're giving up any Out of Warranty coverage that may or may not pop up. You can do that, it's your decision, but others who may be reading this thread need to be aware.

One year and a day after purchasing my 6 plus (128GB), I finally took it in to closest Apple Store (actually thought it was still in warranty) for a different problem - loud white noise when recording audio or video, and occasionally when using speaker phone.  After running a battery of tests and not being able to reproduce the problem, they sent me on my way. At supper, it began doing it again, so ran back over to the Apple Store where it did demonstrate the audio issue.  They said it was a microphone failure - and require the screen assembly be replaced, and being that it was the day after 1 year, they would go ahead and replace it at no charge.  Great.

2 hours later, I get my phone back with new screen.  Noise issue is completely gone... but within two days, I noticed a brand new issue: intermittent screen unresponsive to touch that matches what so many are posting about. Not sure if the issue was exacerbated or created by the screen assembly replacement, or if it is just a case of bad timing.  Either way - I'm out of warranty and the screen might not stop responding all day, or it might start doing it every few minutes - many times a day.

99/100 episodes, I simply press the power button, then wake/unlock the iphone and touch is immediately responsive again. But every so often, touch doesn't come back - and I have to hard reboot the phone.

Also - in most (but not all cases) I've tried - just leaving the phone alone - sometimes a minute, sometimes several minutes, the screen begins responding again without the power off/wake process.

I have had unresponsive screen problem twice with my iphone 6+, it started and got worse and worse.

Both times it was solved by removing the screen (open 2 screws, lift screen and open metal cover on top of the connectors) and disconnecting the connectors between screen and chassis and spraying normal contact cleaner to all connectors, letting it dry and then putting everything back. After that phone works fine at least half year, if the problem comes back repeate the produre.
