Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

A replacement phone has a 90 day warranty, so it is not out of warranty.

I'm also having this problem with my iPhone 6+ 128GB (bought February 2015)

The touch screen gets unresponsive more and more frequent.

I have to lock my iPhone and unlock it to make it work again.

Although this is not the way a phone should work.

I have an Iphone 6. It was working perfectly until a week ago when it kept stalling with touch. Tried resetting phone as new multiple times without fix. I noticed a clicking sound on the top half of the phone like the screen was separating. I had genius bar appointment today. The mechanic initially told me she fixed it with discharging my battery and closed my appointment. When I showed her that the screen still didn't respond, she told me she didn't know why. Just that the Iphone 6 was an old model now and that was probably why. I see tons of articles on the Iphone 6 Touch Disease issue and lots of complaints on apple forums. I was basically told I had to pay $299 for a replacement Iphone 6 although the new phone sounds like it will basically have the same structural flaw! Horrible!

I have had unresponsive screen problem twice with my iphone 6+, it started and got worse and worse.

Both times it was solved by removing the screen (open 2 screws, lift screen and open metal cover on top of the connectors) and disconnecting the connectors between screen and chassis and spraying normal contact cleaner to all connectors, letting it dry and then putting everything back. After that phone works fine at least half year, if the problem comes back repeate the produre.

It is a contact problem in screen connectors, clean them and reconnect.

i should not have to open my $1000 iphone and spray it with contact cleaner to get it to work.  Plus the issue appears to be caused by two chips and not the screen itself.  Sounds like a temporary fix at best.

fully agree, but it seems to work well, my phone is over 2 years now so no quarantee any more.

Opening iphone 6 is much easier than 5 you just have to have suitable tool set , 10 min and problem fully disappears. Dont necessarily believe the chip explanation or it can be another problem.

real cause is low quality connectors, so problem will come back, but you get half year without it.

iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

For me this all started in April this year and I'm on the 5th replacement phone thanks to Apple care plus , just an inconvenience, the last 4 exhibiting the same touch issues. Its just a phone! At least it wasn't new car taken in 4 times for the same problem.

Well  AP60, if it's just a phone to you....you are not using the iphone correctly. It's potential is so much more....audio recorder, camera, video recorder, game machine, computer, tv, clock, timer, the list goes on and on with all the apps that expands the use. Now take away it's functionality and you are left with a $900 brick!  :-(

I was just being sarcastic towards one of the previous comments. I know it's not just a phone , it's a gizmo that is used for all those functions that you've mentioned and we become so dependent on it that some assume it will never malfunction and when it does it brings a different level of frustration.

as far as I know replacement phones are repaired old phones so they have old connectors if not replaced, you having 5th phone confirms that. Writing this with iphone 6+ which had touchscreen problems twice and now working perfectly again just with cleaning the connectors.

if you can use screwdriver and follow ifixit or youtube instruction it is easy to fix this.

toolset is few usd and 6+ does not have weak plastic parts which you can break as 5 did.

I was just reading about this in the news last week.  I went camping, powered it off to conserve battery, and set my phone on my thermarest air mattress next to me. When I woke up the next morning my 6 Plus was doing the same thing. I tried all the common trouble shooting techniques which are largely software related solutions. I own so many Apple devices (2 MacBooks, 1 iMac, 7 iPhones, 3 ATV's, 2 AE, 1 extreme, 4 iPads).  From what I'm reading it will be $329 for Apple to fix it, but sounds like they might not be able to as it requires soldering a tiny chip on the motherboard.  I hope Apple stands behind this one. From everything I'm reading- it's a large issue that is getting much more frequent.

I have had this issue for quite some time and it has gotten worse. When I first started losing touch I was in warranty but it happened so few and far between I could not get it to replicate if I were to drive that far away to my nearest Apple Store. Over the past few months the problem has gotten intensely worse. Every single little time I go to use my phone or look at it I experience the grey flickering screen and loss of touch. I have escalated the issue and gotten the same response. They want to sell me a new phone for an issue I did not cause.

I had the phone in a dual layer case it's whole life to protect it from bends. I wear baggy pants and keep my phone in the front pocket. I don't sit on it. There is no visible bends. I spent extra money to get the 128gb model in hopes that the product would reflect it's cost and have some quality. Turns out the iPhone 5 has better quality and I have to go back to using it in the meantime because I don't believe I should have to pay for something that clearly is the fault of the manufacturer. They messed up, it happens, how were they to know this could happen? But I think they should own up and support their loyal customers. We don't deserve this.
