Q: Other than holding down the ON button and then restarting, how should I manage my Late 2009 27" iMac when it hangs on the first blank white screen and refuses to boot up?

Other than holding down the ON button and then restarting, how should I manage switching on my Late 2009 27" iMac when it hangs on the first blank white screen and refuses to boot up?

Thanks for the helpful response - my hanging white screen problem only occurs occasionally, after I have used the ON button in the usual way.  Do your instructions mean that I should now always use one of the options to avoid the problem - in which case is there one that you would recommend?

I greatly appreciate your help in sporting this out. M.

You should only need to do the PRAM reset on rare occasion. If you continue to have issues that is indicative of greater problems. You can post an EtreCheck report of your system and we can look for obvious issues. To get the report, click the link, download and run the app and then copy and paste the results to your reply to this message.

If you just want to learn what EtreCheck is, simply click the link.

And thank you again - this has certainly answered my question and I am grateful for the introduction to EtreCheck.  Most helpful. M.
