Q: How to create shopping list in sync with a database

Hi, Im currently using Yosemite 10.10.5. I am running Numbers version 3.6.2.

Im totally new in working with it as well with this kind of software like excel. My question came for my need do create a template to go to the market for my grocery cause I am following a diet and I need to add several ingredients etc.

I would like to create a template that help me to do the following:

  • Create a table with the receipts and tag them with the "names"
  • Create a table that it s connected with the receip so when I will write the name of what I need to cook will add to another table What I need to buy.
  • My diet is changing per week, so I would like to know what amount of ingredients I need to buy per week, so by doing this table I just need to enter the names of the receipts and the amount will be added to the grocery list. So if I have to eat something twice in the week or some ingredients are similar I know what I need to get from the market

IT WILL BE GREAT IF I CAN FIND SOME HELP ON IT, OR EITHER WHO I CAN HIRED TO CREATE SOMETHING LIKE THAT OR WHICH SOFTWARE CAN HELP ME.

THANKS VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE

If you're just starting out, my advice is to keep it simple. Here is one straightforward way to save work that uses the built-in sorting capabilities of Numbers.

Simply make a table that lists each meal and each ingredient for each meal, one ingredient to a line, like this:

    Recipe

    Quantity

    Unit

    Item

    Store

    Meal A

    1

    cup

    Ingredient 1

    Store X

    Meal A

    0.5

    jar

    Ingredient 2

    Store X

    Meal A

    2

    Tbsp

    Ingredient 3

    Store Y

    Meal A

    6

    ounces

    Ingredient 4

    Store X

    Meal B

    1

    lb

    Ingredient 5

    Store Z

    Meal B

    1

    jar

    Ingredient 2

    Store X

    Meal B

    0.5

    cup

    Ingredient 6

    Store X

If you make the same meal twice a week then just list all its ingredients twice and name the second meal Meal A-1 or Meal A-Wed or whatever.

Then when it comes time to go to the store just sort on column D.

Giving you this (which makes it easy to see how much of each ingredient you need):

You need 2 jars of Ingredient 2, etc.

If you buy different ingredients at different stores you can sort on column E to see what you need at each store.

This will work well on your iPhone or iPad too, if you're taking them to the store.

You can get much fancier with this, but this might well suit almost all of your needs.
