Q: Where are my old apps? Not on new phone.

I tried transferring my 4s to my 5s with icloud and didn't move 90% of my apps. I tried it again backing up to the computer from 4s then restoring from computer to 5s, again 90% are missing, only the same few apps moved over besides the new ones that came with 5s.  Now if I look at either phone in itunes, all my apps are pictured on the right side (under apps) but nothing is listed on the left side where they all used to be listed. Same with the 5s, the few apps are listed on the right side but there is nothing listed under Apps on the left side.

Where are all the apps I bought--practically all where bought from the Apple app store. How can I get them and put them on my 5s? Is it because they aren't 64bit? I thought the 5s could handle both. I really need these apps.

Not helpful.  The following is not on my iTunes display "right side and click on Purchased under Quick Links".  When I get a new phone and back it up from the old phone everything should just work, of course nothing works like that.

OK, three years later, it might be a good idea to tell us the specific situation you are running into.

What type of new phone did you purchase? What iOS is it running?

How did you back up the old phone? What iOS is it running?

What restore method (iCloud or iTunes) did you use?

What is the actual issue you are running into?

Your post is simply a set of statements and opinions. If you have an issue you need help with, please tell us what it is. We are all volunteers here, and we have no special powers of perception....

Pure frustration trying to get a new phone working like the old.  Went from a 5 to a 6S, iOS  9.3.5.  The USB connector on the old phone was bad, sometimes it would charge sometimes it wouldn't, sometime it would connect to my computer sometime it would not.

I tried to restore via iTunes.  I have no idea what iOS was on the old phone, whatever was pushed last.  I have a poor idea of how the Cloud works on theses phones, I miss the old days when we had file folders and we put stuff where we wanted it to be.

The problem I had when I posted this message was that I didn't know where to find the iTunes store, I eventually stumbled and fumbled around and found it.  It looks like my contacts have updated and my music, apps did not upload.  I have no photographs.

I had to go to the app store on my phone to redownload apps.  None of my text messages transferred,  still don't have photographs. I then tried to restore via the cloud.  None of the instructions for backing up on the cloud that I've found seem to work.   There's supposed to be a back up button on the Settings app, but I don't have that button and I can't figure out how to add it to general settings.

In short, I hate switching to new phone, it should be a simple single push of a button, but it's not.  It should be easy and transparent but it is not.

Again, you have not specified what, exactly you need answers for.

If you actually performed a backup of your old device to iTunes, then you should have been able to restore the new device from that backup. Apps have never been a part of either an iTunes or an iCloud backup - only the data associated with those apps. Apps have to be re-sync'd if you are restoring from an iTunes backup. If you are restoring from an iCloud backup, they will automatically re-download, but it takes awhile depending on how many apps you have. This "re-downloading/re-syncing" applies to all purchased media.

The instructions for backing up and restoring are quite clear and straightforward. Just follow them step by step:

Transfer content from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

The Backup button in Settings on your new phone is under Settings>iCloud>Backup. Once you click on that, you will see the option to turn on iCloud Backup, which will cause a backup to automatically be created any time your device is plugged in, on the lock screen, and connected to Wifi. You will also see the option to "Back Up Now" on that same screen.

If you have a particular question you need answered, please state what it is.

    Cheers,
