Q: Got an ipad from my grandfather that belonged to my grandmother that passed away and no one knows the lock password. How do i unlock it?

Got an ipad from my grandfather that belonged to my grandmother that passed away and no one knows the lock password. How do i unlock it? When i connect it to my iTunes account it says it cant be connected because i need to put the pass word in first. But well i don't know the password.

    See the following page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212. Note that if Find my iPhone was enabled, you will not be able to reactivate the iPad after restoring it without her Apple ID password. If that is the case, there is no way around that other than providing proof of purchase and a certificate of your grandmother's death to Apple, and having them release the lock.

    If you’re referring to a passcode, click here and follow the instructions.

    If you’re referring to the activation lock prompting for an Apple ID and password, or encounter it when following the above instructions, take the iPad, its purchase receipt, and the grandmother’s death certificate to a physical Apple Store.

    My grandfather doesn't know where a receipt is for this Ipad. And the closest apple store to me is LA. This is frustrating.

    You may be able to use one of these methods to contact Apple, or the Apple Store’s phone number, but would need to prove ownership to get the lock removed.

     

    If desired, you can click here to check if you’ll need to contact Apple before restoring the iPad.
