Q: Backup: Queastions are. 1.Are Backups only made to iCloud ? 2. How can I see what has been backed up - in can I access the backup and where can I find a list of all data backedup. 3 Is iTunes involved in every backup.Thank you

My iPad has been set to backup but the following is not clear to me -can anyone help clarify.

1.I have iCloud with 200 GBW storage is it automatically backed up to there.

2.If the answer to 1. Is Yes can I check what exactly has been backed up I've not what is scheduled to but what physically has been.

3.If the answer to 2. Is Yes how do I do that

4.Reading the posts there seems to be a link between Backup and iTunes ,is that correct and if so do I need a separate PC/Mac linked to iPad to access or initiate Backup from iTunes.

5.Under the list of Backups scheduled on iPad I can see no option for the Notes app - why is this does it always automatically backup and if so where can I check what has been backedup.

Thank you - am running latest version of iOS on iPad2

1, depends upon your settings. Have you got Settings > iCloud > Backup > iCloud Backup 'on' ? If you have icloud backups should automatically happen when the iPad is plugged in, connected to wifi, and the screen is locked

2, the apps that you've selected/deselected to backup are shown in Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > This iPad .

3, you would need to restore the backup onto a device. Store purchases (apps, music etc) are not included in a backup, they will be downloaded by a restore if they are still in the store. And any of your own media content (e.g music copied from CDs in the Music app, your own videos in the Videos app, and photos synced from a computer) are not included in a backup.

4, if you want to backup to a computer's iTunes then yes, you would need to connect the iPad to a PC or Mac's iTunes to backup to it.  About backups : How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

5, if the notes are stored on your iCloud account (Settings > iCloud > Notes is 'on' and that is where they are showed as being stood in the Notes app ?) then they should be automatically stored in the cloud.

King Penguin may have erred on #5. As far as I know only the newer iPads back up Notes to iCloud. On the older iPads Notes are only backed up if you have a iCloud .com email account. Notes may use iCloud to sync between devices, I'm not sure. Turn Notes in in settings > iCloud and see what the message says.

Not 110% sure about notes. In the Notes app I have notes stored in various places, iCloud, on one of my normal email accounts, and 'on my iPad'. The iCloud notes should be automatically synced through the cloud onto other devices where that iCloud is being used (and where 'notes' is enabled) - if you delete a note on one device, it will be deleted on the other devices ; the email account notes are stored on the email account (so should be accessible wherever you use that email account e.g. if you log into the account on a browser) ; the local notes should be included in an iCloud backup. That's my understanding (which may not be entirely correct, or possibly not at all correct).

re #5... if you are syncing your Notes application with iCloud, those notes will not be in any backup.

Check by signing in to icloud.com and check the Notes icon. Ifcontent is being synced, it will not be in a backup, iTune for iCloud.

Thanks to King Penguin and LALAllen for the additional info. Without a iPad 2 and pre-update Notes app it's impossible to double check for certainty. The good news is the one time I had to Restore my iPad from my iCloud backup, back in IOS 8.1, Notes were included.
