Q: iMac Startup and Graphics Board Malfunction
A little while after the latest updates my Early 2009 iMac (now declared obsolete) refused to reboot.
On startup the screen showed several neatly arranged vertical yellow lines. When arriving at half of the loading bar with the Apple logo it will turn to a proper white screen and stop booting.
I've tried all the startup key combinations and at first the only one working was the terminal and safe boot (with shift). Once it passes halfway of the loadingscreen the yellow lines become four major ones wich'll stay yellow on white backgrounds and turn blue on profoundly black backgrounds. Except for the lines, everything functions normally. When rebooting however the problem returns: no normal boot.
After a while recovery itself made a recovery (cmd+R). I've tried safe formatting the whole disk and reinstalling a fresh MacOS, but also no succes.
Diagnostics won't boot (in D, nor in option+D), so I can't do an system checkup...
All in all: should a start diggin' a grave for my iMac, or does anyone have any other ideas worth trying?
