I understand that you do not have Wi-Fi at home - what I am suggesting is that you get Wi-Fi at home. Alternatively, I am suggesting that you find someone else that does have Wi-Fi, like the public places I suggested above.

Do not worry about asking these questions, we are happy to help. However, going to the Verizon store may be the best option for you at this point. Their whole business is Internet connectivity, so they should be able to get you set up with everything you need, and would probably be better equipped to answer any remaining questions you have. Best of luck.

SO what your telling me is go to Verizon wireless store ask them to hook me up to wifi even though I don't have a wifi connection at home and then I'll be able to download things like sykpe and other apps I know I must sound really stupid asking all these question well I'm a girl what do you expect I don't know anything about this computer stuff

Many of us here are women and yet manage to learn about computers. Being a "girl" doesn't mean you're stupid. No one here thinks it does and you shouldn't think it does, either.

Some Verizon Wireless stores have WiFi access for customers. However, I believe you'd be better off making an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store. Not only do they have Wifi but they also have experts who can help you update your iPad.

Free wi-fi.  I remember reading: Apple store, local library -- most but not all have free wifi, starbucks, or best a neighbor who has wi-fi.  Some McDonalds have free wi-fi.

Your iPad has the capability to connect to Wi-Fi. I understand that you do not have your own Wi-Fi, but the places that rccharles and I have suggested often do have Wi-Fi. You can go to one of those places and connect - or as you like to say, "hook up" - to their Wi-Fi network.

We are suggesting that you go to someplace with WiFi in order to update your iPad. Once that is done, we can work on the next problem.

Are you saying you're unable to connect to the internet using your Verizon cellular data?

What I am suggesting is that while you are at one of those places, you can download the iOS update, since it requires Wi-Fi. After the update has downloaded and installed, then you won't need Wi-Fi anymore and can go home.

In general, Wi-Fi is only needed on the iPad for the following:

    • Downloading an iOS update
    • Downloading an app that takes up 100MB (megabytes) or more of storage (limit may vary)

Basically, what I'm saying is that going to one of those places to get a Wi-Fi network is not a long term solution, but you can download the iOS update while you're there. Doing so will enable you to download Skype, since your version of iOS will be higher than iOS 8, which is the minimum requirement for Skype. If you're looking for a long-term solution, you would need to look into getting a Wi-Fi network set up at home.

This sentence does not make sense in English.

Before posting another word, go to Settings>General>About>Model and report back what it says.

What I'm saying I also need my iOS to be higher then it is so I'm able to download these apps that I want to I feel really stupid well I'm a girl I don't how to do this

We are trying to help you do that. However, if you keep insulting women, I may have to reconsider doing that.

Have you considered buying a book like this?

    https://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Missing-Manual-David-Pogue/dp/1491917911/ref=sr_1_ 1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472413740&sr=8-1&keywords…

I could help explain the issues. There are other good books on Amazon as well or you could just browse through the official iPhone guide here:  https://help.apple.com/iphone/9/
