Q: Powerline  connection

Previous situation:

Router from provider, 4 ports

port 1 goes to my time capsule by CAT5 (latest version and firmware)

port 2 goes my airport express by CAT5 (latest version and firmware)

Everything I could read out with Airport conf. program.

Present Situation:

Router from provider, 4 ports

port 1 goes to my time capsule by CAT5. (latest version and firmware)

port 2 goes via a powerline adapter to a airport express (latest version and firmware)

I get a mark that the AE is not there anymore, but everything works fine.

Same SSID and password, other WIFI signals set off line, WIFI from apple system is fast. (as expected)

How do I solve this, I want to read out the the complete network with the Airport conf. Program.

Thnx in advance.

(excuse for the grammar, I am Dutch)

Temporarily reconnect the AirPort Express, by Ethernet to your provider's router. You do not need to make any configuration changes to the Express. Can you access it with the AirPort Utility now?

Yes, I did try that already.

Comes up as part of my own network

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by that. I would expect if properly configured, the Express when connected to the router that it would show up in the AirPort Utility just as your Time Capsule does. Is this not the case?

Yes it does work as it should be, but `t the moment that the CAT5 is replaced bij a power line connecting I get a exclamation point and the text that it is not in my network anymore. But it all works well.

It seems that the power line is blocking the signal from the AE that he is in the same network.

Ok, thanks. I just wanted to understand.

In order for the AirPort Utility to "see" an AirPort base station, it requires at least, two things:

    1. IPv6 "Link-local only"
    2. Bonjour

If either or both of these are not able to travel over the powerline connection, would be the reason you are seeing this issue.

I suggest that you verify that your AirPort Express is configured for IPv6 Link-local only, as follows:

    • Temporarily connect the Express back to your router by Ethernet, and then, access it with the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the Express > Edit
    • Internet > Internet Options > Configure IPv6: Link-local only > Save > Update
