Q: Where can I find OS 10.9 or 10.10 to download?

I have a MacBook Pro (Core i7, 4GB RAM) running OS 10.6.8 in order to use older versions of Photoshop and Filemaker Pro. I no longer need these on this laptop, and want to upgrade to Mavericks or Yosemite, whilst still using Aperture 3. El Capitan is said to have problems with Aperture. I know Aperture & Yosemite are OK; I have them both on a MacBook Air.

I am not happy to move to LightRoom, and Photos just doesn't offer the photographic management I require.

Where can I download Yosemite to install, rather than El Capitan? Any attempt to find it has so far always been re-directed to El Capitan.

Thanks for your advice.

If you previously downloaded Yosemite from the Mac App Store, log into it with the same Apple ID and download the old OS from the Purchases tab.

If the other computer's version of Yosemite came with that Mac, go to a physical Apple Store and ask for it.

Thanks; I'll give that a try next week (it originally had Mavericks, but that will do nicely!)

I thought Neil's reply had solved my problem, and found Yosemite in my 'purchases' on App Store. I backed up the laptop, went back to the App Store, and found it GONE! Can't see it with any other Mac, either. Lion and Mountain Lion are still there, so it's not an OS thing, just Yosemite.

Have the Cupertino boys taken it back? Is El Capitan so good no-one could possibly want anything else? Seems strange it should happen so quickly.

If you have downloaded it in the past it should be available to you as long as you are using the same AppleID.  Personally I keep a copy of all installers I have ever downloaded.  Apple has removed it for download for anybody who has not yet downloaded it. El Capitan is considered the replacement for both Mavericks and Yosemite.

Turns out that it was in a previously unknown bit of the App Store 'Purchased' list: 'Hidden Purchases'! Why? I certainly didn't hide it. I'm downloading it now. I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to save it on a USB flash drive for future security/download. It will be helpful to have most of my Apple computers running the same OS, but I want one that works with the software I use.

Once the installer has downloaded, do not run it. If you apply the update the installer will be deleted. Copy it to your USB drive, and then you can run the update from your Applications folder whenever you choose.

Thanks for the info, this was very helpful. I did it once before, but that was a couple of years ago.

With very little effort you can make the USB/SDcard flash drive bootable. This has the added advantage of being able to run the Disk Utility.

So not just saved onto a USB but making it bootable, by using the command line: createinstallmedia

If you are unfamiliar with the commands in terminal there are other 3rd party options to create a bootable installer for safe keeping. You need at least 8GB SDcard
