Q: iphone will NOT turn on!

So I have the iphone 5, and this is basically a hand me down phone. After no use for several months, my dad gave it to me and I've started seeing some problems. When i put the charger in, it shows that it's charging but gradually goes down. On occasion, it would charge like it's supposed to, but just last week, it was dead for 4 straight days-on the charger. I was pretty sure it was the battery, so we took it to the apple store and they replaced it. As soon as i got home to charge it though, low and behold, it does the sammmeeee thing. I've tried EVERYTHING, and a new phone is not in the question right now. Please help! Also, sorry for the lengthy description.

If your device will not charge try the steps in this Apple article:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201569

Also try downloading the app Battery Life which is available for free from the App Store. Test the battery with it and if defective, schedule an appointment at an Apple store for possible replacement.

If none of that helps, try holding down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15 seconds until the Apple logo appears. You will not lose anything.

If a restart does not help try a System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data if possible. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

What are you using as a power source to charge it? If it's not an Apple USB adapter its possible that the power source cannot supply enough current to charge the phone.
