Q: Macbook Pro hard drive problems

I have a MacBook Pro (Mid-2010) and I restarted it one day to find that something was very wrong. I got a 'Disk Utility' window, and nothing I tried in it worked. My hard drive was named 'Macintosh HD', but according to the Disk Utility applications, it doesn't exist anymore. I am currently writing this from the support website that the 'Get Help Online' option sent me to. Maybe my hard drive was physically damaged? I don't know, but if it is, it doesn't surprise me, my computer is 6 1/2 years old.

Can you see any hard drive in Disk Utility? Do you have a backup, preferably 2?

Disk Unmount Using Terminal

Disk Utility – Force Mount Disk

Run Disk Utility and select First Aid. Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data.

I can't do anything with the hard drive. The only thing that appears is 'Recovery OS', and I never created a backup because I didn't have an external hard drive.
