Q: photos and pictures on my iphone 6 to my iMac

I have not had any success with transferring pictures from my iphone 6 to my iMac into a designated folder. They can be synched into a program called photos, however I cannot move, transfer, alter or otherwise do anything with them. How do I take them off the phone and transfer them to a predesignated folder that I have control over?

I do NOT and WILL NOT use icloud

iMac, iOS 9.3.5, my phone is a iphone 6

Do not use Photos at all - use Image Capture (in your applications folder)

I have no such application, on my Mac or my phone. Nor does that solve the problem.

    I wish to be able to;

    1. transfer my pictures off my phone to a designated place on my Mac

    2. Have the ability to view, modify and change the photo/image.

    3. Have ability to make folders and put the photos where I want them.

This was a simple task when I had window OS. from the view, an image/photo could be dragged and dropped into ANY folder.

It appears that this may not be possible with a Mac

And it is just as simple a task on a Mac

You do have Image Capture (unless you intentionally deleted it - it comes on all Macs) - it is in your Applications folder and you view and edit with any viewing and/or editing application you want to use - Preview is the viewer and basic editor that comes on all Mac - the finder is the file manager

And it does exactly solve the issue giving exactly what you ask for

when you use image capture and the finder everything works just like the PC and you drag things exactly the same way - Photos does not need to be involved at all (and it is totally different - as described above it is a photo manager not a file manager - much better than what you want for many reasons but not necessary - you can do it how ever you want

You need to go to your Apple Store and take their most basic Mac classes

Image Capture is a standard application, that comes with any Mac. It is the basic tool to import photos to a Mac.

Because it is a standard application, the name of this application may be different, if the system language on your Mac is not set to English.  For example, if the Mac is set to German, the app is called "Digitale Bilder"; if the language is set to French, the app is called "Transfert d'images", etc.

Whatever it is called on your Mac, you will find it in the Applications folder and recognize it by the camera icon:

Image Capture can transfer photos from iPhones or iPads to folders on your Mac. Just point Image Capture to the folder, where you want to save the photos. then you are free to use any photo editing application you like to edit the image files, and you can rearrange the folders as you like.

Your iPhone (or any newer iOS device) cannot be mounted on a Mac as an external drive like a SD Card or a camera.  The file system on these devices is protected and can only be accessed by a selected few applications - Photos for Mac, iPhoto, Aperture, and Image Capture.
