Q: Specialties

For some reason my specialties are listed as Desktop and iLife. I do not have a desktop computer. I have a MacBook Pro, an Airport Time Capsule, an iPhone 5c, an Apple TV, and an iPad, and a USB SuperDrive. I know quite a bit about these devices but I know nothing about iLife. I do not understand the process of changing my specialties. Can somebody help me change my specialties?

Specialties are a relatively new addition to ASC. It appears that ANY participation in a particular subject area triggers the award of a Specialty Badge - it is supposed to indicate "interest" at the beginning. The one that appears next to one's avatar is supposed to be the one with the most "advancement" (the little tick lines below the actual badge)

I got a badge for ApplePay and it somehow eclipsed all other Specialties for a very long time - until I made a point to TRY to advance in one in which I actually had "expertise". I do not use ApplePay. I do not have an iPhone. I do not have any idea how it got there!

So if my experience is any indicator, you must pick another Specialty and attend to the advancement tasks so that it will "push" Desktops out of "the lead"

I am confounded at the Level points system that awards 8 points ONLY to some very new user... any clues?

no Followed threads (other than this one automatically by Participating)
no Participated threads other than this one
no Bookmarks
no Followed Places
Award for REGISTERING perhaps?
I forgot to mention - No Specialty "Interest" either (one must DO things to get the badges, right?)

Probably.

You need to do a couple of things to get those and the other awards. There might be some points on the way.

AS I recall, I got an ApplePay Badge for simply participating in a thread that got MOVED to ApplePay area from Using ASC forum, its first (temporary) home
How "Level" points are related to "Specialty *Level*" blue lines is well beyond my comprehension.
I give up trying

I'm sure it's incentive for solving a problem in the future. The other two points are given when the OP marks the post solved. If you unfortunately get a AR a point is deducted.

Today a person asks a question. They are amazed at the length and breath of the knowledge of the contributors to the Forum and what a friendly, welcoming place it is.
Tomorrow the lightbulb goes on and they decide to be a contributor too. They answer a question and are rewarded 10 points.
The 8 points are a pre-reward to demonstrate how much they'll enjoy helping.
Or it could be something else. As of right now nobody can find a shred of evidence exactly what it is.
