Q: My 2014 Time machine sparse bundle old back up has disappeared and I need it back

I was reactivating the use of my wireless Time Machine since 2014.  During the week of 8/2016, I turned on Time Machine which then completed a verification of backups on "GoFlexHome".  And stated "To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you."

It said, "Click Start New Backup to create a new backup."

And also stated, "This will remove your existing backup history."

I turned off Time Machine at the time machine window and renamed my sparse bundle file to: CliffoniaMacBook Pro_Old.sparsebundle

which had files from my last backup in 2014. This morning I tried to access the sparse bundle and nothing happens when I click on it.

Where is my sparsebundle created in 2014, which now reads modified and last opened 8-29-2016 and previously said modified and last opened 8-26-2016 the date I actually saw the backups in the sparse bundle?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), null

Unfortunately, this message appeared on your screen during the week of 8/2016.

This indicates your old backup file has become corrupted, and it is unusable. Time Machine needs to erase the old backups and start a new backup again.  Click Start New Backup to start the process.

If the message that you see above does not appear on your screen, then you will need to manually open the hard drive and delete the sparsebundle file, since Time Machine will likely not make a new backup until this has been done.

If you want to keep the old sparsebundle file, you will need to move or copy it to another drive.....but I doubt that it will be useable as far as being able to go back in and look at old backups.
