Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

    2 updates:

    1. In trying to follow some of the advice from this forum, I tried to unscrew the 2 screws from my Iphone 6 using simple kitchen knife. In doing so, I noticed one was loose. When I tightened it, touch screen issue seems to have resolved completely (for now)! Interestingly, when I had my genius bar appointment 2 days ago, I asked my genius if she could check the screws for being loose. She told me they were fine and weren't the cause of the problem for my phone. The problem as she told me was that my Iphone 6 was "old."

    2. Interestingly, my own attempt post about this issue was deleted by Apple this morning because it was "speculative."

Hi All, This is happening to my iPhone 6 64GB, so I don't think it is limited to the iPhone 6 +.

Any other iPhone 6 users can repo this issue?

    • AAbsolutely the most FRUSTRATING thing I have ever encountered with a phone. I have reset the phone multiple times. My first and last iPhone.

So, my iPhone 6+ began doing this about 2 weeks ago. A light tap on the screen would normally fix it for a few days, but now it happens every few minutes even after I did a full restore. Can't believe Apple isn't doing anything about this other than telling us to buy a new phone. I've had a 3g, 5, 5S and now this 6+ and my wife has had a 4S, 5, 5S and 6S. I hate to say it but this will be the last iPhone I own, I don't mind the higher price when it works the way it should but to see Apple not standing behind the product when so many people are having the issue is disheartening.

Dont necessarily believe the chip explanation or it can be another problem.

Jimi, you may not believe the chip explanation, but Apple doesn't believe your "clean the connectors" recommendation as they do not offer it as a repair option.

ipad , Touch, 2 MacBooks , iPods. Very loyal customer. I will take Apples advice and buy a new phone. A Samsung Galaxy 7. I paid 900 bucks for this thing, treat it like gold to find out that I am SOL is very upsetting. I protest with my checkbook these days. Sold my stock in this company too, they used to be special but now they seem to be more interested in profits that customer satisfaction and quality.

I slammed the rear of my 4th iPhone 6plus on a table and the grey flickering and freezing went away for 3 weeks , I'm on my 5th phone , free replacement , thanks to AppleCare Plus. The contact cleaning might not be permanent.

Yes, iPhone6 also has the same issue. I have an iPhone6+ and my wife has an iPhone6. Luckily, my iPhone6+ not yet has this touch issue but my wife iPhone6 does has touch disease problem. Although there is no grey bar flicking on top of the screen, touch sometime doesn't work. Touch will go back to normal once I lock and unlock the phone by pressing the lock button. For sure this is not a software problem, since I try to reset setting, restore the with latest software...etc  but problem still exist.

So, i took it to Apple in Tokyo and ask for help, The staff from Genius Bar check my iPhone6 and  told me there are some customers have the same issue, by lock/unlock the phone the touch will back to normal for sometime.  And this problem won't fixed if they change the touch panel.  The only way to fix this problem is to pay for exchange a refurbished one. Obviously, this is a known issue for Apple since sometime ago, I feel disappointed that they still haven't take any action about it. 'Edit: even though you pay for a refurbished phone, it might have the same problem, I am glad that I didn't pay for a refurbished phone'

it's a frustrated issue, and people who have this issue also wasted time to troubleshooting this problem.

Mine works after several attempts of trying to swipe back and forth, push power if it doesnt respond and try again if I get a distorted screen I do a soft reset and repeat. pure bs that they arent standing by their products. I read that it might be a loose screw I going to look up more info on that and try that
