Hmm... if you select Google from the account settings in the link I provided, the setup should be automatic for an IMAP account. Try again.

That is odd. I have Yahoo and have not had any issues like that. I would try contacting Google and see what they have to say. The article I linked is the standard way of setting up a Gmail account and has worked in the past. I don't know why you are having that issue.
