bootcampNightmare

Q: bootcamp windows 8.1 pro installation failed: "windows could not update the computer's Boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed".

stuck at this step, attempted 7 times no avail. Applecare gave me a link to ms knowledge base: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931697 which is irrelevent and cant be applied.

microsoft has left me with no solution either. I have a legit copy of win pro 8.1 and a brand new macbook pro 15" top of the range machine.

I am considering running a parallels version, last resort... Not happy about this option as I wanted every ounce of 16GB RAM and core i7 available to either machines - only possible via bootcamp...

I hope someone can guide me with a solution as the giants( apple and microsoft) have decided to toss me about.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), Bootcamp Version 5.1.2 (497)

I signed up just so I could also confirm that this did the trick for me.  This is my first Macbook so I'm completely unfamiliar with what disk management tools it has, etc.  I tried a variety of different combinations of things to no avail. I didn't even know what the P&R thing was all about I'd seen referenced a few times

Anyway your directions we clear, accurate, and worked.

After a weekend of frustration trying to install Windows 8.1 Pro on my brand new MacBook Pro, 3 hours spent at the apple store today, and phone calls to both Apple and Microsoft, your post has saved me!!

So many thanks for replying to this forum Nineandnine

Nineandnine's solution worked great for me!  I have a late 2013 MacPro and just successfully installed Windows 10 Home edition...without nineandnine's help, I would have been stuck!

I was trying to install windows on my second ssd. For two days been a nightmare.

Finally after all above and other forums recommendations tried and failed I was able to install.

I just did a simple solution. Partitioned the drive into 50gb and installed windows on it and it just worked like a charm.

Finally I have windows 10 single language installed on myacbook pro.
