Q: Problem with Keychains?

I have had a lot of problems with Keychains since installing Mavericks. At the moment, I keep getting asked to enter my login password for various items. eg Safari, address book, local items etc. These pop up seemingly at random. Has this happened to anyone else? Have you managed to fix it?

    Back up all data.

Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.

Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.

If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.

Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.

    From the menu bar, select

    Keychain Access Preferences First Aid

If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.

    Select

    Keychain Access Keychain First Aid

from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

Thanks for entering your solution.  I went through your steps but the same phone number that I do not have access to is shown.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.

Are you dealing with iCloud keychain? Can you change the phone number is System Preferences/iCloud/Keychain/Options?

I did start a new discussion. I also went to the existing discussions.  My new discussion was more basic and my inability to set up iCloud Drive on both my old MacBook and an old iPhone 4.  The MacBook runs Yosemite and the iPhone iOS  is up to date.  Maybe it is that my MacBook is from mid 2010.  It is lasting too long to be replaced.

First I apologize for not thanking you, in my first message.  Your message led me to try a different option and it seems I now have Keychain on my MacBook and a new security code to set it up on my iPhone 4.

But I can not get passed the security questions.  Whatever I answer seems to be wrong.  The answers I enter I believe are correct.
