Aug 30, 2016 4:20 PM in response to lmerrittby LarryHN,If you stay up to date adn have iPhoto 9.6.1 you can open your iPhoto library - if you do not then maybe you can upgrade to it - Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store
Otherwise you just have to check what you can - only you know what you have

Aug 31, 2016 5:03 AM in response to lmerrittby léonie,You can probably not upgrade iPhoto '09 to iPhoto '11, version 9.6.1, because that upgrade requires a purchase and Apple stopped selling iPhoto.
To convince yourself, that all photos have been migrated, compare the folders with the original image files in the libraries.
Select the Photos library in the Finder and ctrl-click it. Then select "Show Package Contents". A Finder window showing the files and folders inside your Photos Library will open. The original image files will be in a folder "Masters". Look at the size of this folder.
Now ctrl-click the iPhoto Library and select "Show Package Contents". The original image files will be in a folder called "Originals". Compare the size to the size of the "Masters" folder in the Photos library.
Both folders will be structured by subfolders according to the date of import - year -month - days.
Be careful, when you open the libraries. Do not modify or move anything, just look.
