Q: Import iPod files to new iTunes

I want to sync the music that's on my iPod to my iTunes library on my new macbook. the only option I can see will delete all my music on my iPod. The only thing I was able to do is sync the purchased music but not the rest.

By design, iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from iTunes library to iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except as you noted).  However, you can use a third-party method or utility to transfer song files from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod music transfer," you should get some useful links, including an article by CNET on the topic.

If your old computer is still accessible, with its iTunes library intact, the much better way to transfer your complete iTunes library, with all media and supporting data (such as playlists, play count, ratings, date added, etc.), is to copy your iTunes folder directly from your old computer to your new MacBook.  If this is possible, you can post back to get additional info.

Thanks for your reply, afraid the old computer is not accessible that would have been a lot easier. I will try it the other way you mentioned.
