Q: IPhone 5c Showing as Charging but Battey Level Reducing

I posted a few months ago that this cursed 5c would not charge. Now, for some us fathomable reason, it has decided it WILL now charge, using one of the cables it previously refused to work with.

After a couple of successful charges, I now find the damned phone showing that it is charging, but the battery level is dropping at an alarming rate - it has dropped 10% in a matter of 5 minutes.

Not sure why this is happening - there are no obvious apps being run on it, I haven't used it for a few hours now, yet I now have the low battery warning.

I am utterly fed up of Apple products causing me problems, and am currently looking at the open window wondering how far I could actually throw the phone.......

Any help gratefully received.

iPhone 5c, iOS 9.3.3

Ok, I'll give it a try....

Please check this article for suggestions, particularly turning off Background App Refresh.

    http://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/

Also try downloading the app Battery Life which is available for free from the App Store. Test the battery with it and if defective, schedule an appointment at an Apple store for possible replacement.

If your device will not charge try the steps in this Apple article:

10% in 5 minutes is absolutely not normal. Have you taken a look at what is using your battery?

Thanks both of you for taking the time to reply.

With regard to Background App Refresh, this has already been turned off. As for the Charging Article, I have already read this and TBH, all the problems started when I updated IOS to the latest version!!!!!

Problem with a defective battery is that the phone is a few years old and well out of warranty - TBH, trather than paying for a new battery and to keep getting hassle, I am very tempted just to buy a cheap phone off Amazon or e-bay to get ride of the thing!!!

With regard to usage, bizarrely it is currently showing usage (last 24 hours) as:

    36% Home & Lock Screen

    35% HERE Mapping App

    13% Clock

However, the problem with the charging has only started about 5 hours ago.

Am also trying to download the Battery Life app, but the battery is now down to 8% and the app seems to have given up loading.........
