Q: My beloved iPod classic stopped working
Hello, everyone!
So, yeah. My darling iPod classic sadly passed away after almost 8 years. I have no idea what to do.
I would really like your opinion: is it worth changing the hard drive? Has anyone tried it with an iPod classic?
I'd really like to keep using it, because it's just the best.
Thanks in advance!

If "iPod classic" means it's a 5th gen iPod (first one that played videos) or later, this web site has interesting information and products for replacing the bad hard drive with commonly available flash-based storage in the form of compact flash card or SD card (on an adapter).
I have not used these particular adapters with 5th gen and later iPods, but I have upgraded my even older 3rd and 4th gen iPods in a similar way (using different adapters). One now has SD card and one uses compact flash card. With new battery (replaced at the same time), they both work better now with higher storage capacity than when they were brand new. In my experience, SD cards are less expensive compared to compact flash cards of same storage capacity. And SD cards are physically much smaller.
If your "classic" iPod happens to be 4th gen or older (like mine), you can post back to get additional info.
The hardest part is opening the case without causing damage. This web site has illustrated repair guides (and there are also numerous "how to" videos on YouTube).
