Q: will traditional faces be supported in sierra photos

Does somebody know if the work done in photos to complete Faces data will be supported in OSX Sierra. I've more than 12000 photos tagged with Faces and I'm anxious to know if Apple will just get rid of my current data to replace it with their new way of finding Persons?

Thank you

As soon as Apple releases Sierra then someone can check it for you and let you know.Until such time those who are running Sierra are under a Non-Disclosure Agreement and can not say anything about it.

This is not a place to speculate on Apple policies - Other that the public Apple information  --   http://www.apple.com/macos/sierra-preview/   --   no one can discuss what might be or what is in Beta  -- when Apple announces details or releases the software then we will know the details

In fact, I'm normally part of the Apple beta software group. which I actually do with iOS 10 on iPhone and iPad. But without this information, I'm afraid to install Sierra and risk to loose all this data. I know that i could reinstall el Capitan with my backup, but I would prefer not to take the risk. For now, I'm just unable to test the functionalities between iOS and OSX.

So that just means you will have to wait until it is released and someone not under an NDA is able to test that then.

OK, I'm sorry. Maybe I should not have asked, but I was not considering that question as Top secret. I just think people should know about it before they upgrade. Thank you for your answer.

Apple doesn't agreed with you. Hence the reason for signing NDA to join beta testing teams.

And they will - when the software is released then prior up upgrading everyone can  (and should) read the release notes and ask any questions in these forums - until the software is released no discussion is permitted nor it is even intelligent since the released software may or may not match the various Beta's - that is why they are beta

Have you looked at Apple's Sierra announcement? This information is available open on Apple's home page.

    http://www.apple.com/macos/sierra-preview/

You can see that most of the new features of Photos on Sierra will be  centered around a new, improved face detection, renamed to "Persons".

You’ve spent years capturing moments worth remembering. Now Photos can turn them into unforgettable experiences called Memories. And powerful new technologies make Photos even better at face recognition, let you display all your photos on a world map, and even allow you to search your photos by the objects and scenery in them.

    ...

So the named faces will be important in the next version of photos, but before the first stable version of Sierra has been released, it would be futile to speculate, if there will be any compatibility problems.

I got into the habit of assigning keywords with faces names to any photo with detected faces in Photos, s o the faces name will be saved separately and I can see it in the Info panel. And I can more easily recreate the faces albums on other Macs, since the faces albums do not sync with iCloud Photo Library across Macs.
