Q: I take "raw+fine" photos... How can I see the RAW?

I take "raw+fine" photos (essentially two photos per shutter) I can view both (side by side) in the picasa app on my Microsoft computer, but I want to see them on my MacBook Pro. The "use raw as original" button is grey. Any idea how to see my raw images (and not get rid of the JPEG, though that has not been an issue)?

Photos Version 1.5 and the online support person had nothing productive to say.

If you are shooting RAW plus JPEG (fine) then the images are stacked in Photos - if you double click a photo and enlarge it to edit then you can select use RAW as original - it is not active except in edit mode

The "use raw as original" button is grey.

This command is only available in the Edit panel. It is a nuisance, but you have to enlarge each photo in Edit mode to be able to switch. (I think Larry meant to write "only available" and not "not available").

When working with RAW+JPEG pairs I found it easier to duplicate the photos after importing to Photos. Then I can keep one version with the JPEG as original and one version with the RAW as the original and compare them side by side.

Duplicating the photos does not duplicate the original files, it will just create an additional thumbnail and preview. I delete the second  version once I have made up my mind, which version to use.
