Q: Bluetooth headphones and Apple Watch experience

I was considering an Apple Watch, and I only now realized it was possible to pair bluetooth headphones with the watch directly.  I have a 6S+ in a case, and it's pretty bulky.  Fine for trips to and from places, but around the house or office, it would be awesome if I could leave it in one room, and move around the house with just the watch and phones.

Does the watch have to also be in bluetooth range of the phone?  Or will this work if they're both on the same wifi network?

I recently downloaded songs from my iPhone to my Watch and paired it with a set of headphones and was able to listen to the music directly from the Watch.  The Watch will play music directly to the headphones as long as they are paired even with the iPhone out of range.

If you are using the Watch / headphones within Bluetooth range then you should be able to have full feature access.  You can also control the music played from the iPhone with the Watch.  Kind of a cool feature.

Remember that Bluetooth range can be affected by walls, electrical wiring and other electronic devices.

    I hope this helps.

Ok, if I understand correctly, to be out of bluetooth range of the phone, you can only play music actually stored on the watch.  To get access to other things, streaming content for example, both watch and phone would need to be in bluetooth range.  This would still be great to just hear the stored music.  I do like the remote control feature too.
