Q: set poster frame (iTunes - home sharing)
The set poster frame functionality for home movies in iTunes is poorly implemented, but after scouring the internet and third party forums I finally found the secret. You have to set a rating on the video after setting the poster frame - then iTunes will accept and actually display the frame you've selected as your poster frame. It took quite some time to get to this point. It took much longer to go through each of my movies and select a poster frame which actually makes sense and identifies the movie. But I did all that and took the time because I wanted to see helpful poster frames when browsing my iTunes movies on my 4th generation Apple TV, through home sharing.
Unfortunately, the Apple TV ignores all this and continues to use the frame it has selected as the poster frame for the movie. I tried changing the names of the movies so the devices might think they were new movies. I tried turning off home sharing and restarting everything. I even tried removing the movie from iTunes and adding it back again, but this causes the movie to lose its custom poster frame, forcing you to start over, and it still doesn’t succeed in forcing the Apple TV to use the custom poster frame set in iTunes.
I’ve enjoyed home sharing of home movies, from iTunes to Apple TV, but my enjoyment is ruined by frustration over this feature which should work but does not. I've submitted this as a feature enhancement suggestion through that interface. If someone here is able to unlock the secret of how to make the current version of Apple TV display the proper custom poster frames, please enlighten me. It would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Bill
