Q: An error occurred while partitioning the disk

I am trying to install windows 10 on boot camp. I have already done the USB part of the installation, and downloaded the support files, and now I am trying to partition my disk. No matter what I try, it always comes up with the same error message "An error occurred while partitioning the disk".

I have tried:

Repairing the disk in disk utility.

restarting and holding cmd + r and doing the disk utility from there.

restarting and holding cmd + s and entering /sbin/fsck/ -fy

All of these things say that my disk appears to be good. I have searched everywhere for some other way to fix, but everyone seems to have that disk problem.

I am using a Mac book pro 13" mid 2012. Running on osx Yosemite (10.10.5).

Any help would be awesome! Thanks.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

    Please post the output of

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

You may also want to boot into Internet Recovery and run

    diskutil repairDisk disk0

Do you have a mechanical internal disk or an SSD?

I don't know what you mean by "diskutil list" and "diskutil cs list".

I will try out the internet recovery thing and see what I can do.

My hard drive is the default 5400 rpm 500gb hard drive that was in the mid 2012 mac book pro 13". It is a mechanical internal disk.

The diskutil commands will provide partitioning details of your disk(s) and are used in Application -> Utilities -> Terminal .
