Q: no internet acess when connected to wifi and cellular

A day ago, I got a VPN profile installed on my iphone. I had used this vpn before in the past and it had never given me trouble. However, it would not connect to wifi at all so I figured I would restart my phone and delete the vpn profile. I did this and when I tried to connect to wifi then, I was unable to join any network that I chose. I then reset my network settings and restarted the iphone. This allowed me to connect to any wifi I wanted to but I could never get internet access. Additionally, my cellular LTE will not provide internet access.

In summary, I can connect to whatever I wish but the connection does not give me access to the internet. I have tried restarting my iphone and resetting its network settings but doing both of those things has been pretty useless.

Please help

Try holding down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15 seconds until the Apple logo appears. You will not lose anything.

If a restart does not help try a System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data if possible. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

Are you sure the VPN profile is gone, and that VPN is turned off in Settings/General/VPN?

I did the hold down home and power button but that didn't seem to help. As for a system restore, I dont want to do that quite yet.

It's unusual for an Internet connectivity problem to affect both WiFi and cellular. Have you confirmed this by turning off WiFi?

Go to Settings/WiFi and tap on the i next to the network name you are connected to and look at the DNS field. It should be the same as the Router IP address. If it isn't, fix that. You can also change it to 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS server) as an experiment, then try to connect using WiFi.

The DNS setting is not accessible for Cellular, but it should be your carrier's DNS.

    I figured it out.

First I want to mention that I did try turning off wifi and accessing cellular but that didnt work. I was not able to check the DNS on the router because I have been using routers on my university's campus and not my own so doing that might have changed something if I had that option.

What I did to fix it was kind of an accident. I hit the calendar app to see what I had to do today and realized that "today" was May 27 2015. Im thinking that must have been the last time I used the vpn because that was around when I graduated and I used the vpn to get passed blocked websites at my high school. Anyway, I changed the date under General Settings/Date & Time and once I did that, everything worked fine. I have absolutely no idea why this worked and why the old date caused everything to mess up, but it did.

    Thanks for your help guys

I decided to try deleted my VPN (cyberghost) out from my phone. And right after that....its works everything back to normal.

Still I wonder why, because I have this VPN for quite a while already and for some reasons it just happen. Thanks guys for all advised around here.

Most likely the VPN provider went belly up, or changed their settings.
