Q: How to export iMovie to external hard drive?

Being a novice at film making, I managed to import my first interview to iMovie, but it was saved in iPhoto/iCloud and what I need is to get it to my external hard drive so I can delete it from my MacBook. I managed to make a new library on the hard drive, but not to move the iMovie there. Should I delete it from iMovie and start over from the camcorder? Thanks in advance.

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

To move your project to the new library click on the projects button and in the project window mouse over the project and click on the circle with the dots. Select to move the project and choose the library on the EHD. Note the EHD must be formatted MAC OS Extended journaled.

The library on the hard drive will probably be referencing the interview clip in your iPhoto library.   To get a local copy of it in the iMovie library (allowing you to delete it from iPhoto), first delete it from iMovie.  Export it from iPhoto to the desktop then drag and drop that file into the iMovie timeline.  You could alternatively import it directly into iMovie from the camcorder.

Thanks! Somehow, I was able to delete the film from my laptop and re-imported it from the camera directly to the EHD. We're never too old to learn a new trick or two...
