Q: iPod Shuffle charges/is recognized but won't play
My iPod shuffle (4th gen) will show up and charge when it's plugged into iTunes, but then when it's disconnected it won't play through any headphones. It's fully charged, and I've tried the reset with no success. A hard restore apparently isn't an option as I get an Error 1400 message that basically an error has occurred. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this might be going on?
Thanks!

When you move the power switch from OFF to ON (with shuffle disconnected and headphones plugged in), watch the shuffle's light (next to headphones jack). Does it come ON briefly to indicate battery charge level. If it does, what's the color?
For the Restore, shut down (power off) the Mac and disconnect all USB devices. You can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used. If it's a MacBook, connect its power adapter so it's not running on battery power. Move shuffle's power switch to OFF. Start up the Mac, run iTunes, and connect shuffle to a direct USB port on the Mac, by itself. Immediately try doing a Restore again.
