Q: Will my library save if I download new iTunes?

I have an old version of iTunes(10.6.3) on an old iMac(10.5.8). Can I download the new iTunes without any issues? We don't want to lose our library.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

You'd need to upgrade the computer's OS to be able to upgrade iTunes; if your iMac is a G4 or G5, it's not possible to upgrade. In any case, back up your iTunes library and anything else you'd like to keep; a problem may occur at any time, not just during an OS upgrade.

You should be able to update without losing anything.

However, you should never update any software without baking up your computer.

Just make sure you have backed up before doing it, just in case.

It's alway advisable to make backups for important data in this digital world whether you are doing an upgrade/update or not. Better safe than sorry.

By the way, the latest iTunes 12.4.3 will only runs on Mac OSX 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) or later.

    Read Niel's post above.

If your Mac is a G4 or G5, and you want to update, you need to buy new Mac (hardware).
