Q: Bios Update

Hello,

can somebody point me to the Bios updates for my machine?

I need one that is more aggressive on the hardware resources. Proper drivers for the GPU would be nice as well. Reading from the Geekbench databases, this machine is never more than a nice looking paperweight.

Thanks for reading

    macpraxis,

You are confusing a Mac for a Windows box. Macs do not have a bios however they do have firmware, if there are any updates necessary for your machine they are available in Software Updates which is located in the Mac App Store. If nothing comes up, then your system is up-to-date and should be left alone.

If you are experiencing some type of problem, perhaps letting us know what it is would open the door to getting some assistance.

the "equivalent" of a BIOS on a mac computer would be the EFI is self contained and not addressable to the user with the exception of possibly this:

Why do you think its performance is on par with a paperweight? What tasks are you doing that the iMac is bogging down on?

That may help us better in helping you achieve the performance you are looking for.

It`s not a particular problem, it`s frustrating that the overall performance is rather poor compared to a machine with similar OR even less powerful hardware, running Windows 64bit. From your reply I gather you never made a real world comparison. Now I think the price for this machine is ridiculous. Since there is no solution, even after many month this configuration is on the market, it leaves me embarrassed and frustrated as I mentioned before.

Tanks for making time to answer me.

If you won't give details then you cannot be helped. "overall performance" is vague and useless as a diagnostic. Basically, your post reads as "I think my machine is a bit off, fix it".

Well what  you can do is post an EtreCheck report of your system and then we can look for anything obvious. Please click the link, download, install and run the  report. Then copy and paste the complete report into your reply to this message.

If you post the Etrecheck report here we can, as rkaufmann87 said, examine it for known software conflicts. We can't help further until you do so. Posting the report will not give away any information that can affect your privacy or online security.

What you describe so far sounds like you have anti-virus software installed. There is NO anti-virus software that does not serious degrade Mac performance.

Everyone who has kindly responded has asked for this and other more detailed information in order to help you. If you are trying to speak to Apple this is not the place--we are all end users like you. If this:

Now I think the price for this machine is ridiculous. Since there is no solution, even after many month this configuration is on the market, it leaves me embarrassed and frustrated as I mentioned before.

is how you want to feel about the whole thing for the foreseeable future and you do not need help, please let us know so we can help elsewhere.
