Q: Applescript editor permanently hung

Strange that both your iMac and MacBook are experiencing the same issue with the Applescript editor, but I'll do my best to help! I recommend picking one of your Macs and trying these steps with that one. If these steps have set things right on first one tested, follow them as well on the second.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up -- Even though your Mac is starting up, starting up in safe mode makes sure everything starts up correctly. Once you've reached your desktop in safe mode, restart your Mac normally and try the script again.
How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac -- Setting up a new user on your Mac will let us know if the problem is just located in your user account or if it's a system-wide issue.
Backing up your Mac hard drive -- If you've determined that the issues isn't just located in your user account, I highly recommend backing up your Mac. Even though the next step shouldn't cause a problem, it's always better to "have" a backup than "need" a backup.
About OS X Recovery -- Use this article to reinstall the operating system on your Mac then test your script again.Take care!

It is easier to help with a script problem if the script itself is posted here. Don't post any private information though.
Select the advanced editor option here, and then paste your AppleScript. Then select your AppleScript code (the truncated portion will be selected also), and then from the Style menu in the toolbar, choose Paragraph.

Both devices started normally from the beginning. It's only AppleScript editor that displays symptoms.
Created and tried another account. Problem never occured, on either device.
The problem cleared itself on the iMac after 4 days without me change anything. It cleared on the MacBook in ABOUT the same length of time and has not recurred. The scripts themselves were unchanged. I did not restore but as mentioned below, I am now in position to do so with minimal drama.
Very occasional, similar symptoms appear when using Safari. If I just touch the mouse without actually commanding anything, the view changes with associated odd scrolling effects. I have swapped my mouse with the spare, and added an apple trackpad.
I have since made a separate AppleScript use only account on both machines. I have modified the scripts to make them portable. I think I have two chances if this happens again.
This has prompted me to pay attention to my backup which is now both a general time machine and separate script covering all Applescript efforts. If I do get a problem, I should be able to revert fairly simply. A lesson learned.
