Q: MacPro 2013 video keeps crashing my machine!
All,
I have a the following 2013 MacPro:
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro6,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5
Processor Speed: 3.7 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 10 MB
Memory: 32 GB
Boot ROM Version: MP61.0116.B17
SMC Version (system): 2.20f18
Illumination Version: 1.4a6
~~~
I have 32G of memory in the machine and an OWC 1T SSD for the main drive. I have a MultiSync EA234WMI monitor HDMI on my left and a HP LP2475w on my right.
When I am using both monitors at the same time heavily. The system will crash with a GPU restart:
Mon Aug 29 16:57:03 2016
Event: GPU Reset
Date/Time: Mon Aug 29 16:57:03 2016
Application:
Path:
OS Version: Mac OS X Version 10.11.6 (Build 15G31)
Graphics Hardware: AMD FirePro D300
Signature: e
Report Data:
This happened 3 times on Monday and what happens is basically both monitors start to flicker and loose sync and then they usually go off. Sometimes I can pull the HDMI cable and that will restart the GPU and everything will recover. Monday actually lost a boat load of work and so I have had it.
What really irks me is this... No matter where I plug the monitors in GPU Slot 1 never gets used????
I have been doing a bunch of testing yesterday and today. If I use the HP monitor in full screen mode for just about any work (I design Audio, Pro Audio Hardware and Software) then the issue starts up.
If I put that work into a window then things seem to be more stable.
Really any help would be appreciated. I know this has been an issue with this hardware platform. I have been working with others but I need something stable so I can get some work done.
Thanks,
Gordon
