Q: Lost partial keyboard function.??

I have a 20-inch Mid 2007 iMac heavily upgraded with a 1G solid state drive and 6G of SDRAM.   When I updated to El Capitan it seems I have lost some function on my keyboards.   On my wired keyboard the 9, 6, and 3 keys on the numeric right side no long work and also my forward slash key no longer works.   On my wireless keyboard the w, e, and r keys no longer work.   Any clue why these keys on my keyboard no longer work?   Is it somehow related to OS update??

    Hello Darlene Baker,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that certain keys have stopped working after upgrading to El Capitan. I can see how this would be concerning, especially since it is occurring with two keyboards. I am happy to help get this resolved with you.

At this point I recommend testing this issue in safe mode. Starting your iMac in safe mode allows your computer to run certain checks and prevent some software from automatically loading. The steps below will help with starting in safe mode:

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
    3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up

If the issue doesn't occur in safe mode, please follow the steps in the section "If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode" of the link above. If the issue persists in safe mode, it is possible user settings or files could be the cause. Please use the link below to test in another user:

    Have a great day!
