Q: Lag on Apple TV 4

I've had my Apple TV 4th Gen since December and it has for a long while been lagging when flicking through apps or Netflix for example. It's just not smooth at all and I'm sure is not right. I don't know if it changed at the time of an update but it's annoying.

I Also find that things like photo stream albums are not quite complete.

if you can connect the device directly to your broadband connection and circumvent the router and the issue is resolved it's the router or another device connected and using bandwidth.

Do you mean Ethernet rather than wifi. I can do that but I'm not sure that is the issue as streaming is absolurely fine. The lag is apparent when on the menu screen and it seems sticky when scrolling around. It's a similar issue on apps themselves such as Netflix when searching through programs.

Hi. You may be experiencing Bluetooth interference. Are you using any other Bluetooth devices nearby, in addition to the Siri remote? Also, does this happen when only one or two apps are running on ATV? Can you try to force quit some of the apps you're not currently using? ATV 4 differs from the earlier ATVs in that every app you start remains running, just like on an iPad or iPhone.

THanks. I don't think any other Bluetooth devices are interfering. I get the same too when using the Apple remote app. I did have apps open but have now closed them and having the same issue. Maybe an issue with the hardware?

Interference doesn't have to come from a bluetooth device. However I think if you are suffering interference it's more likely to be your wifi network that sees it

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.

Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.

There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

The following article(s) may help you.

You may also find some help on this page, where I’ve collected some of the more unusual solutions to network issues.

It's also possible your HDMI connection could be causing the problem too. I'd be inclined to try the Apple TV in another location, maybe at a friends.

Thanks. Ive tried in two completely different houses with the same issue but admittedly on wifi in both. However streaming is perfect. It is just the menus that jitter.

Then you might try restoring it.
