Q: Time Capsule and Directv HR44 receiver

Hello,

I have a Time Capsule which I use as my wireless router. I have no problem connecting all my devices from iPhones to iPads and other non apple devices. I also am successful in connecting my Directv HR44 receiver(Genie) to my wireless network as I "pass" the connection test via the tv. If a open the Airport Utility app on my iPhone I also see the HR-44 listed there with a MAC address and IP address as well. So I know its on the network. However, when I use the Directv app to try to stream tv to my iPhone via the app, or use my iPhone as a directv remote for the receiver, the app searches and searches and then times out and say there is no receiver on my network. Of course I called DTV and they have no solution and have opened a "case". The problem persists on all my iPhone and iPads in the house. I do not have any non apple devices to test. I have thought of trying another router to try and isolate the problem further. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? Do I need to open a port or something or anything I can troubleshoot on the TC.  Thanks in advance!!!

I don't have HR44 so my reply is more general.

    1.  Set a dhcp reservation for the HR44 in the Network tab of the TC.

Then reboot the whole network and make sure the HR44 does take the IP you set.

    2. Make sure both the iPad or iPhone you are using and the HR44 are using the same band.. not one on 2.4ghz and the other on 5ghz.. there are issues with that.

Ping that IP from one of your clients.. I always do it from a computer which is easy.. on iDevice you will need to look up what tool you need.

Do you have guest network? Turn that off for now.

There are not a lot of settings available in a TC. Opening a port is useless on the LAN connection.

Tell us what model and firmware TC you have and a screenshot from the Airport Utility of the TC setup could be a help.
