Q: Will almost any ram work on my MAC PRO?

Hey will any ram work with my 2009 Mac Pro? Meaning, I dont need ECC, and I dont actually see difference between RAM for MAC and regular RAM, pins are the same etc. Will regular RAM work?

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

I just installed 4 sticks of 8GB Samsung "server only" ram bought cheap on ebay in my early 2009 Macpro Quad. I had to remove the protective metal sleeving from the sticks but that was simple (just pry off the clips CAREFULLY with a knife) and after installing them they work perfectly. Just don't mix different types and make sure you seat the ram firmly -- press down until the plastic holders snap into place.

those are heatsinks, but not as large as the ones as you need.

As you will discover over time, your Mac is intended for an office environment, not a server-room, and runs its fans substantially slower than a server-room computer. If the fans do not run so fast it makes you nuts, the build-up of heat will destroy your new DIMMs in short order.
