Q: Airport Extreme + AT&T U-Verse (NVG589)
Hi All,
I recently purchased an Apple Airport Extreme to connect to my AT&T U-verse residential gateway (Model NVG589). I am having some trouble with the set up. I can access the internet through the Airport Extreme's network on Apple devices (macbook pro and iPhone), sometimes. However, I can't seem to connect other devices such as my smart TV or PS4. I checked the airport utility and it doesn't seem like the Airport Extreme is pulling over any information from my residential gateway (IP address, DNS Servers, Router Address, etc.). My residential gateway is in passthrough mode (I followed instructions I found on several different sites), so I don't know what the problem is. Any thoughts?

If the gateway is properly configured as a bridge. (passthrough mode), the IP address information that the Extreme would require should be coming directly from your ISP. When in bridge mode, your gateway will no longer perform this service.
So if the Extreme does not show the proper IP addresses on its WAN-side, then either the gateway is not actually in bridge mode or the modem part of the gateway does not yet recognize that the Extreme is connected to it.
The first thing I would recommend that you try is to power-down both the Extreme and the gateway. The order that you power them down does not matter. However, you should power-up the gateway first; wait 10-15 minutes, then power-up the Extreme. After doing so, use the AirPort Utility to check that the proper IP addresses are now being assigned to the Extreme's WAN-side. These should be the same as what the gateway would have received if it was performing as a router.
