Q: Music -- suddenly getting "This requires iCloud Music library"

I'm an Apple Music subscriber.  Today, 8/31/2016, I started the Music app on my iPhone and was prompted to log in.  I don't know why, since I always leave it logged in. But I did log in and then tried to download a song. I got the message "This requires iCloud Music Library." I never had to enable that before, and I try to avoid using the cloud whenever possible. Up to know I have never had a problem downloading a song to my phone without it.

So, did something just change?  Is there a way to for an Apple Music subscriber to download songs to an iPhone without enabling iCloud Music Library? (What is it?)  Thanks for any help.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.3.5

    Hello teachinator,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I've got some info that should help you manage you Apple Music and song downloads. Your downloaded songs come from your iCloud Music library to be store on your device. For a full overview of the options you have when it comes to who you stream and store your music have a look at this article:

Same thing here. I just got the hang of Apple Music and now, perhaps with iOS update, things are changing.  I got the same message about iCloud Music Library and I am also having trouble downloading songs to my iPhone. It will show 200+ songs as downloaded and on my phone then when I am out and off Wifi, the songs are not there (I don't use cellular for music). This is one main reason I subscribe to Apple Music -- so I can download new music on my phone and remove it and add others when done.

This is not a helpful reply.  The point is that up to August 31, I could access my Apple Music downloaded songs just fine without doing anything to activate iCloud.  I've actually been trying to avoid iCloud if at all possible.  Your reply doesn't explain why things suddenly changed and I lost access to all my downloaded material around August 31. It's just a pointer to the digital manual.
