Sep 2, 2016 12:11 PM in response to georgia.greeningby Tom Wolsky,★HelpfulYou should not use managed media when working collaboratively. Assign an external location for your media in library properties. Consolidate the library so the media is moved out of it. Create a transfer library into which you copy the elements you want to share with the other editor. Send it to them. They have a folder that should match yours with the media. They relink the media content.

Sep 2, 2016 6:34 AM in response to georgia.greeningby Luis Sequeira1,If you did use external media, as it seems, and the library is that big, ou probably have optimized media and render files in it. Select the library, do File->Delete Generated Library Files... and check everything. How big is the library now?

VideoI say the best way to send it to them is on a hard drive. Everything.
But I prefer being able to hold media in my hand.

Sep 2, 2016 12:11 PM in response to Tom Wolskyby georgia.greening,★HelpfulHi Tom,
Thanks for your advice.
We hadn't anticipated that the project would need to be handed over during the edit so I didn't set the project up properly beforehand (my mistake). I should have assigned an external location for the media rather than containing it within the library to begin with.. at least I know for next time.
I've taken the steps you've suggested and have ended up with a transfer library (containing the two project timelines I need to transfer to the editor) ... as they won't have any fcpx library or external media folders etc their end (until I send this), are they able to receive my transfer library that I'll send and then easily relink the missing media files by locating the files in the raw footage folders?
Thanks again

Sep 2, 2016 12:41 PM in response to georgia.greeningby Tom Wolsky,DO they have their medua inside their library? If they bring in the projects with the same medua it should relink automatically.

Sep 2, 2016 12:47 PM in response to Tom Wolskyby georgia.greening,They don't have an fcpx library at all right now.
We both have an exact copy of the raw footage though.. I am the only one that's got the fcpx library at this stage and that's what I am trying to do is send him the edit projects WITHOUT having to send media as this will take too long what with the file being 750GB.
I want to just be able to send him the projects and him relink the files his end? I believe that if I send the transfer library I created, he will be able to do this as all the source file names are the same?

Sep 2, 2016 1:44 PM in response to georgia.greeningby Tom Wolsky,Assuming the media has been properly imported on their machine and stored correctly it shouldn't be a problem to relink.
If the media was not imported onto the system using FCP, this may be a problem. FCP often rewraps media depending on the original file type. For instance, native, raw AVCHD is in .mts format, which is an acquisition and delivery framework. Great for that, horrible for production. When FCP imports the media is rewrapped to QuickTime, great for production. Bottom line, if they have .mts files and you have .mov files, they're not likely to relink. In which case UPS may be your best solution.
