Q: Cannot Activate Bluetooth Host Controller

I have a Mac Pro Silver tower running 10.8.4. It suffers from the Bluetooth Mouse stutter problem, so I purchased the only USB Bluetooth adapter I could find that said it was compatible with Mac: The Orico BTA-403.

I downloaded Bluetooth Explorer from the Apple Dev site, but I can't get it to actually activate the new USB adapter:

Even if I select the "Cambridge" Host controller, which I assume is the Orico adapter?, and click Activate, it doesn't actually activate. The Apple BRCM host still indicates that it is "[ACTIVE]"

I'm probably just doing something stupid. Any ideas what it is?

Hi Matthew, I'm experiencing the same thing with the Orico BTA-408 which I specifically choose over the 403 as it uses the same Broadcom bluetooth module Apple uses in their 2012 and later iMac network card. Did you make it work eventually? I'm on El Capitan, I tried with SIP disabled and still no go. I Tried CAT (Continuity Activation Tool) which is suppose to even bring Handoff functionality to older iMac (mine is late 2009) and the Broadcom patch for os x but nothing works not even to at least upgrade my BT to 4.0 low energy to be able to use new input devices.

    I'd appreciate any tip. Thanks

Have you contacted the manufacturer for help?
