Q: Can I use an iphone 5s in germany?

Hi,

 

so I got an Iphone 5s, now I am in Germany and i would like to use it here.

In the US i had at and t right now i wanted yo use an E-plus sim card but the phone said that the sim card is not valid.

In the US I also went to an apple shop and i asked if its looked or unlocked. They checked it and its unlocked.

 

I have an american Iphone 5s Model A1533 and my german sim card is not valid. What can i do?

    AT&T iPhones definitely work in Germany. I had no issues.

     

    There might be a problem with the SIM card, or it has not been enabled. Contact the carrier that issued the card.

    If you are seeing a message that the SIM is not valid, that generally refers to the fact the device is locked. Where did you purchase this device? Did you purchase it unlocked, or did you request an unlock from AT&T? If you requested the unlock from AT&T, did they approve it? If they approved it, did you complete the unlock by restoring your device in iTunes until you got the Congratulations message? If the device is still locked, you will need to contact AT&T to request that it be unlocked.

     

    If you do get it unlocked, remember that any warranty or post-warranty support from Apple is only valid in the US, not in Germany. The iPhone warranty is not international.

    You should have visited AT&T store instead of Apple store to check the device lock/unlock status. If you purchased the phone through AT&T, it's very likely it's locked to their network. If you can contact AT&T support by phone, they may be able to give you an unlock code.
