Q: macbook air missing hard drive space

I have a 2015 macbook air, the 128Gb version. yesterday I had around 50Gb of available space, today I notice it has reduced to a mere 14Gb. I havent downloaded anything significant. Looking at my storage, all the missing space is categorized under "other". How can I get my memory back or see where its coming from?

Another thing to try would be to review what large files you have. You can do that via the instructions in OS X El Capitan: Increase disk space or you can use OmniDiskSweeper https://www.omnigroup.com/more

One possibility is that the numbers shown are wrong. If so, re-indexing may correct that: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201716

Re-indexing didnt do anything. Rebooting also did nothing. I checked my files that were on my computer since yesterday, nothing. Only the size of the photos on my computer showed to be 130mb when it should be over a Gb. Not sure if thats of any importance but it isnt reading correctly.

Ah thank you so much. OmniDiskSweeper showed me some odd files that adobe lightroom had created. turned out that it has happened before, managed to free about 60Gb of space!
