Q: WiFi assist doesn't work

the article mentioned "poor Wi-Fi connection", what about my scenario, is it a "poor" WiFi connection?

iPhone with 4G enabled, and connected to home WiFi with good signal, but WiFi device doesn't connect to Internet, will the data go through Cellular?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.5

I believe poor or no connection (over WiFi) to the internet are treated the same and therefore automatically routed through cellular data.

One way to test it is to manually block your iPhone device on your WiFi router. Do not let it access the internet. You can connect to the router but with the block in place, your WiFi router will drop all requests to access the internet. You'll find out if your requests are auto redirected thru cellular connection.

If you have 2 separate devices (a broadband modem + WiFi router), that's easier. Unplug the wire that connects to the broadband modem.

What "WiFi device" might we be talking about?

The iPhone?  Then yes, the data will go through cellular.

Some other device?  Then we need more details about this scenario.

I'm afraid not, my test is as follow:

    1. iPhone connected to WiFi router

    2. unplug the wire between modern and WiFi router

    3. iPhone data won't go through Cellular

so I figured that WiFi Assist only trig on "weak WiFi signal"
